#31 - Newton Creek
Mt Hood Wilderness, Oregon, October 2020.
Even though I lived a few years in Portland, I never got to go on a backpacking trip in the Mt Hood Wilderness. But I knew that was something I had to fix, and I finally got to go on that trip.
It wasn't easy, though. A wind storm made most of the trails impassable, so I was limited on where to go; another storm (with snow, this time) was coming in a couple of days; and I had no plans to come back to the city any time soon. It was then, or never.
Fortunately, I was able to make it to Gnarl ridge where I spent the night, with one of the best views of Mt Hood I ever had. It was an incredible experience. You can watch the video here: One night alone in Mt Hood.
Anyway, it was the next morning, when I was getting ready to go down to civilization, when I saw it. The beautiful Newtown Creek Canyon was simply stunning on that soft morning light. I took a few photos knowing I had gotten something especial, an image that will forever remind me of that night I spent alone in Mt Hood.
