A snowy evening in Indiana
Indiana, November 2025.
Even though I truly believe any day is a good day for photography, some days are truly special. Yesterday I showed you some photos of that foggy morning in late December. Today, I wanted to share some images from another of those magical moments that happen only every once in a while.
What qualifies as a “magical” moment? For me, it’s when something happens that makes a situation feel like an otherworldly experience. It makes you pay attention, and it makes you feel alive. Yes, a solar eclipse or the northern lights can definitely make you feel that way. They are magical. But I truly savor the moments that transform your everyday environment into something out of a dream. Dense fog and a big snowstorm will do that, no matter where you are, even in a small town in rural Indiana.
By the way, you migth have seen some of these images on the video This was intense, where I documented this day. If you haven't watched it, I think it's a good one.
A foggy morning in Indiana
Indiana, December 2025.
December was a pretty challenging month. I usually love winter, but the extreme cold (high temperatures rarely went above 10°F / –12°C for several weeks), along with the lack of snow, made photography almost impossible for me.
It was about to become one of my worst months of photography in years... until the morning of the 28th. I woke up to some fog, which didn’t seem like it would last. But as the sun rose, the fog became more and more intense. I jumped in the car and went for a drive with no destination in mind. These are just four of the many, many images I made that day.
This morning single-handedly saved the month of December, and it was the best way to finish 2025.
I just uploaded the contact sheets of November and December to my Patreon page. If you want to support my work and join us there, you'll have access to contact sheets going back years. All of my work, the good and the bad.

Photography Plans vs Reality (from the Upper Peninsula, Michigan)
I continue my road trip across Michigan as I enter the Upper Peninsula. My first time up here, and so many things don't go according to plan. If not covered in snow, roads are flooded; many parks and spots I want to visit are closed; trails are full of mud. But the good thing is, I have the whole place (or whatever is accessible) for myself.

The first days are the hardest
A photography road trip is a big change from our everyday life. New routines (or the lack of one), habits, motions, and mindset. It takes a while getting used to it, and that's why the first days are the hardest. As I hit the road again, I try to make it easy on myself by visiting a location I'm familiar with, in Northern Michigan.
