Image of the Month, September 2018: "A New Day"

September 01, 2018 in journal

First day of the month, and there's a new print for the Image of the Month series of prints.

After The Last of Winter and A New Beginning, I chose A New Day for this month of September.

Watch the video where I made this image: American Road Trip Journal #16: San Francisco.

I had an image like this in mind for a while: the Golden Gate, downtown SF and, above all, the fog entering the bay and swallowing everything.

The problem was that I was visiting the city at the wrong time, winter. Fog usually happens during the summer. Every once in a while, though, fog rolls in on a winter day.

It took me a whole week of waking up early and driving to Marin Headlands (paid a lot of money for that toll!). Day after day, I'd find the same: clear and sunny sunrises.

I thought I wasn't going to get the image I wanted that time: "I will have to come back during the summer". But on my second-to-last day in the city, when I was about to give up, it happened.

It was an incredible sunrise, and I made the image I was after.
