Image of the Month, October 2021: "Mt Hood Wilderness"
After spending a night up in Mt Hood, I was on my way down when I stumbled upon this beautiful view of the Newtown Creek and its canyon. The light was incredible, bathing an already stunning landscape with some magic.
A "last minute" image on a backpacking trip that almost didn't happen: sandwiched in between a windstorm and a snowstorm, the window for me to finally sleep next to the beautiful volcano was very, very narrow.
two sizes
Remember: there are two sizes to choose from, 6x6 and 8x8 (inches). In both cases, the matt and frame are 12x12 (this means a bigger margin for the 6x6 print).

One night alone in Mt Hood
I visited, hiked and photographed Mt Hood more times than I can count during the 6 years I lived in Portland. It’s a place where I’d go in search of peace and calm. Seeing that magnificent mountain helps to put things in perspective, how small we and our problems are.
But I’d never spent the night up there. I guess that having a comfortable bed just one hour away didn’t make it sound very attractive. I took it for granted, as I prioritized farther away locations.
This time, though, I wanted to fix that. I wanted to do the Timberline Trail over 4 days and 3 nights, but the amount of downed trees on the trail from a recent windstorm made that option almost impossible. I still wanted to spend a night up there, so I hiked as far as I could in one day, set up camp, and enjoyed the views.
It was perfect: there was no wind, it wasn’t too cold, clear skies, an almost full moon, and the whole place for myself.
Image of the Month, March 2019: "Morning Mist"
Morning Mist is the Image of the Month for March.
I made this image on a beautiful and chilly summer morning at Trillium Lake, in the Mt Hood National Forest.
This is one of my favorite spots near Portland, and I'd drive over there many times before heading to work. It was a peaceful and unforgettable way to start my mornings (even though the drive was more than 2 hours round-trip).
This image is part of my work and current exhibition America Untitled.

Image of the Month, October 2018: "Moonrise over Mt Hood"
The Image of the Month for October is now available: Moonrise over Mt Hood.

What a beautiful evening at the Mt Hood National Forest this was! I had only recently started shooting with my Bronica SQ-Ai when I found out about the full Moon rising behind the always stunning Mt Hood.
I spent almost three hours there, sitting in silence, first enjoying the sunset and then waiting until it was dark and the Moon high in the sky.
This image is the result of those three hours there, trying to capture what I saw. The interaction between the mountain and the Moon, the calmness of the moment, the beauty of it, the fragility of nature and the insignificance of humans.

I don't know what I was thinking that day. From Timberline Lodge, I started walking up, and up. It was cloudy, but otherwise a nice day.
When I was close to Palmer lift, at around 8,500ft, the weather started to change: the clouds I had been photographing a while ago reached all of us up there, and it was like being in the middle of a blizzard.
Luckily, it's easy to find your way back from there, and after just a few minutes walking the weather got back to calm.
But in the middle of all of that, I got this image of two hikers coming back down to safety.
Moonrise over Mt Hood, Sherrard Point, July 2017
An image of Mt Hood from the archives for today. I really can't wait to visit this beautiful place again.
This was a lovely evening spent at Larch Mountain watching the Moon rising above Mt Hood. I made several exposures with my Bronica, you can see some of them on the Mt Hood National Forest page of my archive.
I also have a short video about this evening that you can watch here:
Shooting film - Moonrise
Last week, out of ideas of where to go or what to shoot, I remembered the moon would be full soon. I had only shot the moon a few times before, so I thought it could be a cool thing to try to capture on film.

I'm still getting familiar with [my new Bronica](https://aows.co/blog/my-new-camera-bronica-sq-ai), so I've been looking for all kind of light situations to get to know it as much as I can. I also have a few new lenses to try!
